Lions, Vikings and bills, oh my!

There are plenty of football options on Thanksgiving. Whether you want to watch a game before, during and after turkey, the NFL has you covered. And the league is making it special this year, too.

Last December, the football world lost Hall of Fame John Madden. Thursday, Nov. 24, the inaugural John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration begins. The yearly celebration will include special tributes through the three broadcasts. Each game will also include a recording of John Madden talking about the importance of the holiday and its special relationship to football.

“No one cared more or contributed more to our game than John Madden,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a press release announcing the celebration. “Honoring his memory and impact on the NFL is important and Thanksgiving Day brings all of the elements significant to John to life — family, football, food and fun.”

Three divisions are represented Thursday, the AFC East and the NFC North and East.

The day kicks off with the Buffalo Bills playing for the second week in a row in Detroit, taking on the Lions. Last week, the team was relocated due to a snowstorm in Buffalo.

The Lions are riding a three-game winning streak. Can they keep the good times rolling? Kickoff begins at 9:30 a.m. PST on CBS.

Next, the Cowboys welcome their division rival New York Giants to Dallas. With both teams sitting at 7-3 in the NFC East, this is an important divisional game with playoffs implications. Will the Cowboys walk away with the season sweep? Kickoff begins at 1:30 PST on Fox.

And last on the docket sees the 6-4 New England Patriots travel to Minnesota to face off against the 8-2 Vikings. Like the Giants, the Vikings are surprising a lot of people this year, but were just embarrassed in Dallas. Will they redeem themselves at home on Thanksgiving? The game kicks off at 5:20 p.m. PST on NBC.
