It’s official, Derek Carr is no longer a member of the Raiders organization.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who first reported the news that Carr was released before Tuesday’s deadline, went on to say Carr is expected to garner interest from multiple teams in the NFC South.

The move comes one day before the 31-year-old’s $32.9 million salary for 2023 and $7.5 million of his 2024 salary become fully guaranteed on Wednesday, Feb. 15. On the morning of the Super Bowl, reports surfaced that Carr informed the Raiders he did not plan to approve a trade “to the Saints or any other team.” He was able to make that call because his last contract included a no-trade clause.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted Tuesday there should be plenty of interest in Carr. Because he wasn’t originally entering the offseason as a free agent, Derek Carr can sign with any team before the NFL free agency period begins.

In a statement, Raider’s coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler said they have a lot of respect for Carr and what he did to the franchise.

“Derek has done great things in this league and we’re thankful to have been able to work with him this past year,” McDaniels and Ziegler said. “He is a true professional and we appreciate his hard work in striving to produce the results we all desire. We wish Derek and his family all the best in the future.”

How the Raiders’ tenure ended for Derek Carr

With two weeks remaining in the 2022 season, the Las Vegas Raiders made the surprising decision to bench long-time starter Derek Carr. The Raiders drafted Carr in 2014, starting 142 games for the Silver and Black. Over his nine years as the team’s starter, he threw for a franchise-leading 35,222 passing yards and finished with 62-78 record. He technically made the playoffs twice, but the first appearance he did not play because he was injured by the time the postseason rolled around.
