Derek Carr is looking to get paid with his next contract.

That’s according to ESPN’s NFL insider Dianna Russini. On Friday, she reported the former Raiders quarterback is looking for a contract in the area of $35 million per year or higher.

A contract of $35 million per year puts him in the same boat as Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, who makes exactly $35 million per year. Lions’ quarterback Jared Goff is in the same vicinity, too, making $33.5 million per year.

We know Carr has visited a couple of teams already, but are the New Orleans Saints or the New York Jets willing to meet him at that price?

Also in the report, Russini also said  Carr “doesn’t need to be the first quarterback to sign.” Which lines up with what his brother David recently said,

“It’s gonna be a long process though,” David Carr said recently on the NFL Network. “He really only has the Saints, the Raiders and the Jets to kind of compare those three places. And so he wants to do his due diligence and see as many places as he can to get a feel for what the best place for him will be.”

How the Raiders’ tenure ended for Derek Carr

With two weeks remaining in the 2022 season, the Las Vegas Raiders made the surprising decision to bench long-time starter Derek Carr. The Raiders drafted Carr in 2014, starting 142 games for the Silver and Black. Over his nine years as the team’s starter, he threw for a franchise-leading 35,222 passing yards and finished with 62-78 record. He technically made the playoffs twice, but the first appearance he did not play because he was injured by the time the postseason rolled around.
