It seems like Domantas Sabonis breaks a Sacramento Kings record every night, and the big man added another milestone to his collection on Monday night.

Sabonis broke DeMarcus Cousins’ Sacramento-era (1985-present) record of 53 double-doubles in a single season with his league-leading 54th of the year during a 133-124 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks at Golden 1 Center.

The 2023 All-Star finished the night with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 15 assists over 39 minutes–his 10th triple-double of the season (second-most in the NBA).

Sabonis’ 54 double-doubles surpassed Cousins’ mark of 53 during the 2013-14 season.

The 26-year-old also became just the second player in franchise history with 20-15-15 in a game, joining Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson. It marks the first time since Robertson had 26-15-16 against Philadelphia on January 8, 1965, per Kings Communications.

In his first full season with the Kings, the three-time All-Star is currently averaging 19.0 points, 12.4 rebounds, 7.1 assists (career-high), and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 61 percent from the field (career-high) and 37 percent from three-point range.

Sabonis was named Western Conference Player of the Week for his stellar play during the week of March 6-12th, becoming the fourth player in the Sacramento-era to be named Western Conference Player of the Week multiple times during a single season, joining De’Aaron Fox, DeMarcus Cousins, and Chris Webber.

After starting the post-All-Star-break with an 8-2 record, the Kings are firmly in the mix for a top-four spot in the West, which would lock in home-court advantage during the first round of the playoffs.

Sacramento (40-27) holds a six-game lead over the sixth-seed Minnesota Timberwolves with 15 games remaining, putting themselves in a strong position to clinch a spot in the first round of the NBA Playoffs rather than have to go through the Play-In process.

The end of the 16-year postseason drought is near, and Sabonis has put himself in the All-NBA discussion while leading this team to its best play in nearly 20 years.
