The Sacramento Kings accomplished a lot this season.
For the first time since 2006, the team has made the playoffs, but they also secured their first Pacific Division title since 2003 on a 48-34 record.
However, throughout the 2022-23 season, the team tied or broke multiple records on their way to their first postseason berth in years. Here’s a look at what the Kings did that secures them a spot in record books…until they set new records.
They’re on fire!
A common theme throughout the season was how hot the team could get, especially behind the three-point line.Β The Kings made a franchise record 23 three-pointers in a 136-111 win over the Orlando Magic on Jan. 10.
They didn’t stop there. During the first quarter of a late January game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Kings made 12 three-pointers, tying the NBA record for made three-pointers in a quarter. In the same game, the team also set a new franchise record for three-pointer shots made in any quarter and also set a season-high for points in the first quarter with 47.
Another time the Kings couldn’t miss, literally, was on March 3, against the Clippers. The team shot 26-for-26 from the free-throw line, setting a new franchise record for most free throws made without a miss in a single game.
And when the final buzzer sounded on the regular season, with 9,846 points, the team set a new single-season franchise record for points scored, surpassing the 1961-62 Cincinnati Royals by one point.

Keegan Murray for three!
We stay behind the arc with Keegan Murray.
On March 30, Murray broke the NBA’s all-time rookie record for three-pointers made, surpassing previous record-holder Donovan Mitchell. But that’s not all, he also now holds the single-season franchise record for most games with at least five made three-pointers. That record was previously set by Jason Williams in the 1998-99 season.
Murray also owns the longest streak by a rookie in franchise history for three-pointers made with 32 consecutive games in a single season.
And with teammate Kevin Huerter, the two became the first set of Kings teammates to record 200 or more three-pointers made in a single season in franchise history.

Free basketball
On the second night of a back-to-back, the Sacramento Kings traveled to Los Angeles for a matchup with the Clippers. Little did we know we’d be in for a historic night.
With a 176-175 double-overtime win, the Kings set a new franchise single-game scoring record. The game also put both teams in the history books as the second-highest-scoring game in NBA history.

On the road again
What might have been the most surprising statistic to come out of last season was how well the team did away from the Golden 1 Center. By finishing with a 25-16 road record, the best in the Western Conference, the 2022-23 Kings tied a franchise-best for road wins that was set back in 2001-02.

Doubles galore!
Domantas Sabonis fractured his right thumb midway through the season. However, that didn’t stop him from balling out.
The Kings’ center ended the year with the most triple-doubles (14) and the most double-doubles (65) in a single season in the Sacramento era.
And while it wasn’t a record, he became the first Kings player to lead the league in rebounds per game (12.3) since Chris Webber did it in 1998-99.

What did the Fox do?
Last but not least, De’Aaron Fox.
During the season, the Kings’ point guard:
- Scored at least 30 points in eight straight games, the most in the Sacramento era
- Scored at least 10 point in the fourth quarter of 26 games, the most in franchise history and ranking first in the league during the season.
- With his Kentucky teammate Malik Monk, the duo became the first set of Kings teammates to each score at least 40 points in the same game in the team’s historic double-overtime win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Light the beam!
We all know Kings fans are the best. And they came out in droves this season. But on one particular date, the sixth men and women set a new record.
On April 7, the Golden 1 Center was filled with 18,253 fans, the largest crowd in team history.
