Sam Long #73 of the San Francisco Giants looks on during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the eighth inning at Dodger Stadium on July 22, 2022 in Los Angeles, California.

Before this season, the San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics only made a handful of trades together in the past 30 years.

The last major trade between the two teams happened in 1990 when the A’s swapped Ernest Riles with the Giants for Darren Lewis and Pedro Pena.

This season, they’ve already made two.

On Sunday, the A’s announced they’ve acquired left-handed pitcher and Fair Oaks native Sam Long from the San Francisco Giants for cash considerations. Less than a week ago, Oakland sent outfielder Cal Stevenson to the San Francisco Giants in exchange for cash considerations.

“Long began the season at Triple-A Sacramento and was 1-0 with a 9.90 ERA in four relief appearances. He allowed 11 runs on 14 hits and five walks in 10.0 innings before he was designated for assignment on Wednesday,” the A’s said in a press release. “The 27-year-old left-handed pitcher was 1-3 with a save, a 3.61 ERA and .238 opponents batting average in 28 games, including six starts, with the Giants last year. Sam Long has spent parts of two seasons in the majors with San Francisco and is 3-4 with a save and a 4.55 ERA in 40 games, including 11 starts.”
