Update: San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Arik Armstead has officially been activated for Week 13 Sunday. The veteran has been dealing with a foot issue, but t0ld reporters he expected to play nonetheless. After going through his usual pre-game warmups, that only appeared more likely as the day went on.

Running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) is also active for Week 13, while wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (ribs) is inactive. Rookie WR Ronnie Bell should serve as the 49ers’ punt and kick returner in Philadelphia.

49ers Inactives:

QB Brandon Allen (3rd QB)

OL Ben Bartch

TE Brayden Willis

RB Tyrion Davis-Price

WR Ray-Ray McCloud III

DL Robert Beal Jr.

LB Jalen Graham

Eagles inactives:

QB Tanner McKee (3rd QB)

RB Rashaad Penny

LB Zach Cunningham

G Sua Opeta

TE Dallas Goedert

Original Story:

The San Francisco 49ers enter Philadelphia with a relatively healthy roster, as Arik Armstead is trending in the right direction to play.

The franchise defensive lineman has been listed as questionable for Week 13’s clash with the Eagles. Armstead has been dealing with a foot injury that has hampered him the last week or so. He missed half of the 2022 regular season due to plantar fasciitis. But while the Sacramento native missed practice Wednesday and Thursday, his appearance at Friday’s walkthrough gave the impression that he would suit up Sunday.

Prior to Friday, the player stated he would be out there on the field in Philly, despite being less than 100%.

Arik Armstead, 30, has been a staple of consistency for the 49ers over the years. Midway through 2023, the Sacramento native has posted five sacks and 26 combined tackles in 11 games played.

Only wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud (ribs) and running back Jordan Mason (hamstring) join him on the game status report for Week 13. Both men are also questionable to play for the 49ers.

San Francisco will need all the help they can get though, facing a well-constructed Eagles squad on five-game win streak.

“I love the commitment to the run game that they do on offense. I think that’s one of the coolest things,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said about Philadelphia Friday. “It’s not just that they’re committed to the run, but they know what they’re doing too. They know how to use the quarterback as a runner. They know how the adjustments defenses have to make. Then they know when they are making those adjustments, how to use them as a pass. So I’ve got a lot of respect for [Eagles’ coach Nick Sirianni], just schematically in what they’ve done there.”

49ers Game Status Report:

Questionable:

DT Arik Armstead (foot)

RB Jordan Mason (hamstring)

WR Ray-Ray McCloud (rib)

Eagles Game Status Report:

OUT:

LB Zach Cunningham (hamstring)

S Justin Evans (knee)

Doubtful:

TE Dallas Goedert (forearm)

Questionable:

TE Grant Calcaterra (ankle)

DT Fletcher Cox (groin)

Secondary Reinforcements on the way for the 49ers?

The 49ers have suffered a slew of injuries to their secondary since the Bye Week.

Both safeties Talanoa Hufanga and Goerge Odum have suffered season-ending injuries in consecutive weeks. The former suffered a torn ACL Week 11 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, while the latter torn his bicep against the Seattle Seahawks on Thanksgiving.

Odum does have a chance to return this season, but only if the Red & Gold make a deep postseason run.

The 49ers signed S Erik Harris and cornerback Kemon Hall to the team’s practice squad this week. Both men are seen as depth players to fill out the 53-man roster on gamedays.

San Francisco has already elevated Harris to active roster ahead of Week 13. The former Raiders safety has over 1500 career snaps on special teams, making him even more valuable due to the Odum loss.

“That’s a huge loss,” Shanahan added Wednesday. “I mean, George is one of the leaders on our team, one of the best players in the league to me on special teams. He gives us great depth at safety because he was the next man up to help us out at safety, which already down with [Talanoa Hufanga] Huff. So losing on special teams is a big deal and our depth at safety is a big deal. So that’s stuff we do have to be creative with a little bit. Everyone does have an opportunity. Hopefully we’ll see how this practice week goes to who can help us out on special teams the most and who also do we feel comfortable with at safety in case there’s injuries.”
