After trading for Stanley Johnson earlier in the week, the Stockton Kings made another deal on Friday morning to acquire Mason Jones.

According to the team, a three-team deal was agreed upon involving the Mexico City Capitnes and Wisconsin Herd. The complete trade details are as follows:

  • Stockton acquired: Mason Jones
  • Wisconsin acquired: The rights to Gary Clark, Quinn Cook, and Alfsonso McKinne along with Stockton’s 2024 1st round pick
  • Mexico City acquired: Iverson Molinar and the rights to Brendan Bailey

Clark, Cook, and McKinnie have not played for the Stockton Kings this season, leaving their own 2024 first-round pick as the primary outgoing asset.

Mason Jones (6’5) played two seasons at Arkansas before going undrafted in the 2020 NBA Draft. In his first two seasons, he accumulated 36 NBA games, with 26 coming as a member of the Houston Rockets.

He also played six games with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020-21 and four with the Los Angeles Lakers last year.

Jones had been suiting up for Mexico City in the G-League last season. Throughout 18 games, he averaged an impressive 20.2 points, 7.6 assists, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.1 turnovers on 55.4/47.1/79.1 shooting.

This season, Mason Jones played for Darüşşafaka Basketbol in the Turkish Super League. In eight games, he’s tallied 8.9 points, 3.6 assists, and 2.6 rebounds on 34.5/19.0/81.8 shooting in 24.6 minutes. In November, Jones and the club reportedly parted ways.

It is uncertain if Jones will be joining Stockton, but given their willingness to spend a first-round pick to acquire him, there’s likely a sense of optimism.

The wing would add to a roster already filled with NBA experience alongside Jeremy Lamb, Skal Labissiere, and Deonte Burton. Of course, two-ways Jordan Ford and Jalen Slawson have also spent time with the G-League, and Keon Ellis could do the same at some point this season.

Clearly, the Stockton Kings are continuously looking for ways to improve their roster and chances to win behind new head coach Lindsey Harding as their regular season approaches.

With three games remaining in the Winter Showcase Cup, Stockton currently sits at 4-7.
