In an effort to bolster organizational depth at the forward spot, the Sacramento Kings added a veteran to its G-League roster on Tuesday afternoon.
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Stockton Kings have acquired the rights to eight-year NBA veteran forward Stanley Johnson from the Sioux Falls Skyforce.
Johnson, 27, spent the 2022-23 season playing for the San Antonio Spurs, where he averaged 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.5 steals per game while shooting 53 percent from the field and 45 percent from beyond the arc (1.3 attempts per game).

More about new Kings forward Stanley Johnson
Sacramento has a need for forward depth, specifically at the small forward position behind Harrison Barnes and Chris Duarte.
Kessler Edwards has been utilized by head coach Mike Brown for defensive purposes, but the Kings need more reliability on the offensive end in those minutes. While Johnson isn’t a clear upgrade over Duarte or Edwards, he will provide the organization with insurance if Brown and general manager Monte McNair want to try something new.
Johnson is a 6’6, 240-pound forward that can play the three of the four and utilize his impressive seven-foot wingspan.
The Kings currently have an open roster spot, meaning that we could see Johnson join the big league club if McNair wants to deploy another forward as Sacramento attempts to work through struggles against teams that roster length and physicality.
