Josh Jacobs has been dealing with a quadriceps injury he suffered in Week 14 against the Minnesota Vikings.
Having missed the last two games, interim coach Antonio Pierce said the Raiders running back will be a game-time decision Sunday when the team travels to Indianapolis to take on the Colts.
“No need to rush it, [but] if he can go at one o’clock on Sunday, I’m happy with that,” Pierce told reporters Friday.
Through 13 games, Jacobs has recorded 805 rushing yards on 233 carries. Last year, the 25-year-old running back ran for 1,653 yards. But in his absence, Zamir White has stepped up for the Raiders, running for 145 yards against the Chiefs Monday.
“Eight [Josh Jacobs] is our starting running back, that’s not even a question. But Zamir is opening up some eyes. I think he’s taking advantage of the opportunity and that’s the National Football League, right? You give him a play or two, or several weeks to make the most out of, and he’s done just that,” Pierce said. “And I think he’s earned the trust, the belief with our offensive staff and our o-line. I mean, I think that’s huge when you get in the game the way he did last week. And his style of running, I mean, it’s an explosive running back coming downhill. So, a good change of pace back between him and Josh Jacobs.”
Pierce also said Michael Mayer, who is dealing with a toe injury, is “more than likely” out. The rookie tight end missed Monday’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs, after suffering the injury against the Chargers. As a precaution, the Raiders signed tight end Zach Gentry to the active roster.
