While he didn’t take the mound on Sunday afternoon at Sutter Health Park, local product and reigning National League Cy Young Award runner-up Logan Webb was in attendance with San Francisco to watch his team take the field in a familiar setting:

Sacramento.

Webb, a Rocklin native and avid Sacramento Kings fan, met with the media to discuss how meaningful it is to watch Major League Baseball near his hometown as his San Francisco Giants faced off against the Sacramento River Cats in front of a sold-out crowd.

“I came down this morning to see my family and say hi to everybody. I think a couple of them will be at the game, so I couldn’t miss out on coming back here and hanging out,” Webb, who will start Thursday’s season-opener in San Diego, said if his return to Sacramento.

Webb reflected on his time at Sutter Health Park as an Oakland A’s fan—the former affiliate of the River Cats—and shared his hopes of one day seeing a Major League Baseball team call the 916 home.

“It’s always special coming here. You guys know how much I root for the [Sacramento] Kings. I wish there was a baseball team here,” Webb said. “I wish there was a major league team here. I think the city for sure can have one. You guys see how much Kings fans show up, see how much the River Cats fans show up. I love it here, and I’m proud to say I’m from here.”

Webb has been a seen at several Kings games this season, whether it be at Golden 1 Center or in Phoenix near his offseason home when Sacramento is facing the Suns. The right-hander says he’s trying to lure some of his teammates to becoming fans of the ‘Beam Team’–and that he has already succeeded in doing so.

“I did,” Webb said when asked if he has turned any of his teammates into Kings fans. “Alex Cobb is a Kings fan now. Ryan Walker I think is following them a little bit more. It’s been it’s been fun to watch, and hopefully [the Kings] keep going.”

As Webb and the Giants get their 2024 regular season underway, the 27-year-old will continue to follow his favorite team as they push towards a playoff berth.

“I hope they end up in, you know, in that sixth spot instead of seven or eight spot, but I think they’ve been good,” Webb said. “It’s a grind. I know that they’re they’re grinding too, and I think as Kings fans, we dealt with a lot, but we can’t get to picky now. Obviously, we want them to be the number one seed, but I think they’re doing great.”

Sacramento will hope to continue its playoff push on Monday night when they begin a four-game homestand against the Philadelphia 76ers.
