While it is still (very) early in the 2024 MLB regular season, the San Francisco Giants have yet to see the results they want in the batter’s box.

Through 11 games, the Giants have struggled to a 4-7 start–13th out of 15 National League teams–that includes a stretch that has seen San Francisco lose six of their past eight games.

A significant reason why the Giants have been unable to pick up wins has been a slumping offense that currently ranks near the bottom of Major League Baseball in several categories.

More on the SF Giants’ offense

San Francisco was unable to back up reigning Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell in his Giants debut on Monday night, losing to the Washington Nationals by a final of 8-1 at Oracle Park.

The one-run outing was the Giants’ fourth-straight game in which they scored three runs or less, lowering their runs per game average to 3.9 (22nd in Major League Baseball).

After bringing in bats like Jung Hoo Lee, Jorge Soler, and Matt Chapman during the offseason, San Francisco’s start has undoubtedly been a disappointment, and the numbers don’t help make things better by any means.

Entering play on Wednesday night, here are the Giants rankings on offense among MLB leaders:

  • Runs scored: 43 (20th)
  • Batting average: .219 (21st)
  • Slugging percentage: .350 (21st)
  • On-base percentage: .293 (23rd)

San Francisco’s new trio of bats have struggled, with Lee (.238), Soler (.225), and Chapman (.182) all struggling to find a rhythm at the plate thus far.

If you believe in due, the SF Giants have some players who are due for breakout performances in the coming days, a possibility that would help this team stop the bleeding as they look to keep pace in the loaded National League West.

“Our offense is going to come around,” Giants manager Bob Melvin said on Sunday of his team’s struggles. “If we can do the little things, create this kind of identity, and win these types of games, I think we’ll be tougher for it.”
