Rich Paul wanted De’Aaron Fox alongside Wembanyama

As plenty of interviews take place during NBA All-Star weekend, Klutch Sports agent Rich Paul joined Gil’s Arena last weekend in San Francisco to discuss the recent trade deadline, which included two of his clients, Anthony Davis and De’Aaron Fox, finding new homes.

The Drive Guys broke down Paul’s comments about the De’Aaron Fox situation, including his liking of pairing the guard with Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio.

“In De’Aaron’s case, he had spent eight years in (Sacramento),” Rich Paul said. “It was pretty good, but it was time for a change, and I personally wanted to place him next to Wemby to grow, and he thought that that made a lot of sense, too.”

“It’s his choice, but that’s where he wanted to be and I was blessed enough and able enough to make that happen.”

The Sacramento Kings are now facing life without Fox as they look to continue building around a core of Domantas Sabonis, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, Keegan Murray, and Malik Monk.

Funnily enough, they’ll be battling the Spurs in the process, as they both fight near the play-in of a crowded Western Conference.

Domantas Sabonis might be having the best season of his nine-year NBA career in 2024-25.

In 52 games played before the All-Star break, the center, who’s known to be pass-first, is averaging 20.4 points per game on 60 percent from the field.

Giannis Antetokounmp is the only other player averaging 20+ points on a better field-goal percentage.

Sabonis has also taken a massive leap as a perimeter shooter, converting a career-high 45.5 percent of his 2.4 long-range attempts this season. That’s the third-highest three-point percentage in the league.

When is the next Kings game?

The playoff push will begin on Friday night at Golden 1 Center when the Sacramento Kings face a familiar foe–the Golden State Warriors as both teams hope to climb the Western Conference standings.
