Sacramento Republic FC announces groundbreaking for new stadium

On August 18, Sacramento Republic FC’s new home in Downtown Sacramento will break ground and take another step toward construction. 

The event holds special significance for Republic FC’s majority owners – Wilton Rancheria, the first Native American Nation to hold majority ownership in men’s professional sports. Monday’s event will be the start of a homecoming – a return to the ancestral lands of Wilton Rancheria, Sacramento County’s only federally recognized tribe.

On August 18, 1958, the California Rancheria Termination Act was signed into law, resulting in the loss of federal recognition for Wilton Rancheria and 40 other tribal nations. Hosting the groundbreaking 67 years later to the day symbolizes a powerful reclamation of identity, sovereignty, and place for the Tribe and its citizens.

More on Sacramento Republic FC’s new stadium

Sacramento soccer fans will also have the opportunity to secure priority seat selection by placing a deposit for the 2027 season. Deposits start at $9.16 with different tiers for new seating options around the venue.  Every deposit will include a donation to help the club construct more free-to-play mini-soccer pitches around the region. Since 2019, the club has built 12 new safe spaces throughout the community, and donations will support the next court opening later this year – and the many more to follow.

Republic Stadium is expected to open in 2027 and will serve as the permanent home for Sacramento Republic FC, as well as a premier venue for concerts, cultural festivals, and community events.
