Del Oro High School Head Coach Josh Parry
For the latest edition of the High School Showcase, The Drive Guys were joined by Del Oro High head football coach Josh Parry.
The Golden Eagles enter this week at 6-1, with Folsom next up on their schedule. Del Oro is coming off a strong performance against Granite Bay, led by quarterback Luke Taber, who threw five touchdown passes in the win. Parry outlined what Taber has brought to the offense.
“Confidence,” Coach Parry said. “He knows what he’s doing with the ball. He trusts himself. He’s got a cannon of an arm, he’s athletic and uses his legs.”
Coach also highlighted the decision-making and leadership that Taber has been displaying. “Guys know and believe in him,” Parry continued. “That just helps everybody.”
One of Taber’s top targets is junior wide receiver Chase Carmazzi, another player who seems to have taken a significant step forward. Parry described Carmazzi as athletic, strong, and fast with reliable hands. The increased attention from opposing defenses speaks to his improvement.
“A lot of teams have bracketed him, and that’s a sign of respect,” Parry said. “When they single him, man, he goes to work.”
Taber and Carmazzi spent time together in the offseason to build their connection, and it seems to be paying off on the field.
“They’re close, they’re tight,” he said. “They spent a lot of time together in the offseason building that chemistry, and it’s showing up right now at the right times.”
That duo and the rest of the roster will face Folsom, one of Northern California’s best teams, year after year. To win, Parry said the Golden Eagles will need to take care of the football, block, tackle, and avoid penalties.
“In this kind of big game, it’s magnified,” Parry said. “We’ve got to be a little bit better, a little bit greater in everything we do.”
Parry has also continued to emphasize Del Oro football’s tradition, an important part of sustained success and a consistent culture. Former players regularly return to the program speaks to that, and Parry’s son, a 2022 Del Oro graduate, is a prime example as he now sits on the coaching staff.
“Just making it family, man,” Parry said. “Understanding the legacy, understanding the guys that paved the path before.”
Parry’s coaching approach has also been shaped by his own NFL career, which included time around prestigious professional coaches such as Andy Reid, Ron Rivera and Mike Holmgren. He said those experiences changed how he views the game and shaped how he now coaches at Del Oro.
Their goal is to continue competing at a high level while maintaining the family atmosphere and tradition that has surrounded the Golden Eagles program for decades, and the matchup with Folsom will be a best test of that.
