Over the course of an entire 162 game season, there are going to be some ups and downs.

Up and down is the perfect way to describe the Oakland Athletics’ weekend series in Arlington, Texas as they split two games against the Texas Rangers. Previously planned to be a three game series, Saturday nights game was rained out and rescheduled for June 8th as the second game of a double-header.

After splitting the series, Oakland sits at 10-9 on the season as they return home to face the Houston Astros on Tuesday.

Game 3: Sunday, April 14

Oakland jumped out to a 7-2 lead but couldn’t hold on as the Rangers rallied late to upend the Oakland bullpen 8-7 on Sunday afternoon. The Athletics offense got a jump start early thanks to Khris Davis’ 20th RBI of the season via a first-inning double that just missed being a home run as it bounced off of the top of the right field wall. Home runs by Matt Chapman and Stephen Piscotty gave Oakland a five run cushion, but Joakim Soria had a rough showing as he gave up four earned runs in relief, and took the loss in the process.

Game 2: Saturday, April 13

Postponed; rescheduled for June 8th as the second game of a double-header.

Game 1: Friday, April 12

The Athletics offense picked up Mike Fiers on Friday as they overcame a 6-1 deficit to knock off the Rangers by a final of 8-6. Khris Davis continued his hot start to 2019 with his league-leading 10th home run of the year, while Ramon Laureano went 2-for-4 with a home run of his own. The Oakland bullpen hurled four shut out innings, as Blake Treinen picked up the four-out save.
