Oakland drops Father’s Day finale as they fall back to .500

The Oakland Athletics were on their way to a series victory on Sunday until an unexpected factor cost them the game: the Sun.

Seattle Mariners right fielder Domingo Santana stepped into the box against Athletics reliever Lou Trivino in the top of the eighth inning as the A’s held a 3-2 lead. Santana hit a fly ball towards right fielder Mark Canha, who clearly couldn’t track the ball down as it bounced off of his glove, putting two runners on base for Seattle with only one out. The Mariners would follow the mishap with four runs to take a 6-3 advantage that would go on to be the final score on Father’s Day in Oakland.

With the loss, the Athletics fall back to .500 on the season at 36-36.

Ramon Laureano smacked his 10th home run of the season on Sunday while Khris Davis his his 15th. Tanner Anderson pitched 5.1 strong innings, only giving up two runs on three hits while striking out three batters.

Oakland will look to get back on track on Monday in Oakland against the struggling Baltimore Orioles.

Game 2: Saturday, June 15 – Athletics 11, Mariners 2

The Oakland offense exploded for 11 runs on Saturday as Frankie Montas and the A’s defeated the Mariners 11-2.

Montas improved his record to 9-2 on the season after a gem that saw him strike out nine batters while only giving up two runs over six innings of work. Montas now holds a 2.85 ERA on the year, good for 13th in all of baseball.

Marcus Semien picked up three hits, including his 10th home run of the season. Jurickson Profar had three hits of his own as he drove four runs in during Saturday’s win.
