On Friday afternoon, Anthony Slater of The Athletic joined The Drive Guys to discuss his recent article about the landscape of the Pacific Divison and plenty more surrounding the Sacramento Kings.
He recently picked the Kings to repeat as Pacific Division Champions. When asked, he outlined his logic surrounding their projected regular season success. “I think the way they attack the regular season,” Anthony Slater said. “They’re younger, they’re fresher, especially last year, they had a kind of energy that you don’t normally in the regular season from teams.”
“The home crowd, that helps. I think when you get tired teams coming in there in the middle or the end of West Coast road trips, you kind of run them out of the building. I do think people are overly expecting the regression this season. I do think that they’re going to repeat somewhat what they did… I put them atop the division, but I do think it’ll be a packed division.”
He mentioned that their regular season win total may not translate to the postseason due to defensive shortcomings. If Davion Mitchell can continue progressing as a three-point shooter, he could aid them greatly on that end of the floor. Slater provides an excellent perspective as someone who covers both the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors for The Athletic.
Other topics discussed include:
- Anthony Slater: “Mike Brown is clearly triyng to solve the defense in a pretty stern way…”
- Keegan Murray’s potential offensive breakout season, but his defensive question marks
- Should Kings fans be worried about Kevin Huerter?
- What does he think Coach Mike Brown is most proud of with this group?
