Oakland will be out of action until at least Thursday, September 3rd

Just 48 hours after Major League Baseball announced that zero players had tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19), another team will halt its season due to an infection.

The Oakland Athletics announced that Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros has been postponed due to a member of the organization testing positive for the virus.

Per Jeff Passan of ESPN, the league announced on Friday morning that out of 12,276 tests, only two came back positive for COVID-19.

Those two individuals infected were not players and were both from the same team, according to the report.

Oakland will remain in Houston until at least Monday to quarantine and await secondary results. The team will in all likelihood have to reschedule the next three-to-four days of games before returning to action.

All 30 teams were in action on Saturday for the first time since July 26th. After just 24 hours, two teams will be out of action for at least one more day.

The A’s (22-12) had just dropped a double-header to the second-place Astros on Saturday that cut their American League West lead to only 2.5 games.

When the Athletics return, there will only be 26 games remaining in the regular season before the postseason begins in October.

UPDATE (8/31/20):

Good news for the A’s on Monday morning.

UPDATE: (9/1/20)

The Athletics have announced that they will be postponing Tuesday and Wednesday’s games against the Seattle Mariners.

Oakland could be back in action on Thursday with a double-header, but that has yet to be determined.
