Davis’ walk gives Oakland their 60th win of the season

Khris Davis walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Oakland a 6-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Sunday afternoon.

Mike Fiers had a strong start for the Athletics, going six innings and striking out six batters while only giving up two runs. The A’s led 4-2 in the eighth inning before the Rangers battled back to take a 5-4 lead. An infield single by Matt Olson tied things up at 5-5 before the bases were loaded for Davis. “Khrush” took a 3-1 pitch up in the zone for a walk-off win, securing a series split with the Rangers.

Oakland now sits at 60-47 on the season, eight games back of the first-place Houston Astros. The A’s will be back in action on Tuesday night when they face off against reigning NL MVP Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Game 3: Saturday, July 27 – A’s 5, Rangers 4

In a chippy contest that saw the benches clear twice, Oakland outlasted the Rangers for a 5-4 victory.

After Ramon Laureano pummeled an 88 mile per hour changeup from Adrian Sampson for his 21st home run of the season, the benches cleared once Laureano and Sampson exchanged words. Later on, Rangers reliever Rafael Montero drilled Laureano in the back in retaliation, causing the benches to clear once again.

Mark Canha, Marcus Semien and Matt Chapman all homered for Oakland in the win, while Homer Bailey had his best start as an Athletic and picked up his ninth win of the year. Bailey gave up three runs over 6.2 innings of work while striking out seven batters.

Game 2: Friday, July 26 – Rangers 5, A’s 2

Daniel Mengden couldn’t hold a 2-0 lead on Friday night as he surrendered three runs in the fourth inning, giving the Texas Rangers their second win in a row.

Rangers ace Lance Lynn claimed his 13th win of the season in the 5-2 win, while Astrubal Cabrera went three-for-four with two RBI in the winning effort. Mark Canha picked up two hits and an RBI for Oakland in the loss.

Game 1: Thursday, July 25 – Rangers 11, A’s 3

After jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Athletics pitching staff imploded as the Rangers handed Oakland an 11-3 loss.

Brett Anderson gave up five runs in the fifth inning alone, while the A’s relievers combined to give up six more runs over the final four frames. Ramon Laureano picked up two RBI while Marcus Semien drilled his 26th double of the season in the losing effort.
