Even though Mike Brown will be honoring his commitments to the Golden State Warriors before officially being introduced as the next head coach of the Sacramento Kings, he is already in the process of building his staff.

Just two days after the Kings announced the hiring of Denver Nuggets assistant coach Jordi Fernández as Brown’s associate head coach, NBA insider Marc Stein shared on Friday that Brown will also be hiring Charlotte Hornets’ lead assistant Jay Triano to his staff.

Last week, sources close to the team indicated that beloved former Kings guard Doug Christie would return as an assistant coach next season. Stein reported on Friday that Sacramento will indeed have a spot for Christie on Brown’s bench.

Fernández, 39, has coached alongside Brown on the Nigeria men’s basketball team since the 2020 Olympic games. For three seasons, Fernández served as an assistant and head coach in the G-League for the Canton Charge before making the jump to the NBA in 2016.

Former Sacramento Kings head coach Michael Malone hired Fernández onto his staff in 2016-17.

Triano, 63, has been coaching at the NBA level since the 2002-03 season.

Over 20 seasons, Triano has been an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors (2002-08), Portland Trail Blazers (2012-16), and Charlotte Hornets (2018-22).

From 2016 to 2018, Triano was an associate head coach on Earl Watson’s staff before taking over as interim head coach for the conclusion of the 2017-18 season.
