Since Antonio Pierce took over the coaching reigns in Las Vegas, Raiders receiver Davante Adams has seen his involvement in the offense increase.
In Josh McDaniels’ final game as coach of the Raiders, Adams had zero catches in the first half and just one reception for 11 yards in a loss to the Detroit Lions.
Last Sunday against the Jets, the 30-year-old receiver was targeted 13 times and finished the day with six receptions for 86 yards, his second-highest output of the season.
So when asked if it helps him get going early in the game, Adams appears to take a shot at his former coaches and their offensive scheme.
“It helps a lot just getting a little flow early, getting added to the game and not having to wait until right before halftime to get a ball,” Adams said. “It just allows the number one receiver to feel a little bit more welcomed into it and warm up the hands early. It’s not easy catching the ball when you haven’t seen one in 30 minutes. So, it’s something that I definitely like and look forward to doing moving forward.”
Pierce knows what he’s got in Adams, too.
“Listen, when you have one of the best receivers in the game – I’m not stupid. I know who to get the ball to,” Pierce said after the Jets win.
