The last time that the National League defeated the American League in a Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Camilo Doval was 15 years old.
Fast forward to 2023, the San Francisco Giants closer’s name is in the win column following the NL’s 3-2 win over the AL at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.
Doval, the Giants’ 26-year-old flamethrower, entered the game during the bottom of the seventh inning and pitched a scoreless inning while striking out Seattle Mariners star outfielder Julio Rodríguez in the process.
The National League would go on to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the eighth inning thanks to a two-run blast from Colorado Rockies catcher Elias Díaz, putting Doval in line for the win.

While Doval put his 101-mile-per-hour fastball on display for the world to see, fellow San Francisco Giants right-hander Alex Cobb made his long-awaited All-Star Game debut during the fourth inning.
Cobb, a 12-year MLB veteran, pitched a scoreless fourth to cap off a monumental moment for the 35-year-old.
The two Giants pitchers had company from the Bay Area on Tuesday as Oakland Athletics outfielder Brent Rooker traveled to Seattle to represent the green and gold.
Rooker, a 28-year-old that is enjoying a breakout season with the A’s, roped a ground-rule double over the head of San Diego Padres star right fielder Juan Soto during the bottom of the sixth inning.
“He hit it pretty well,” Soto said with a laugh of Rooker’s double as he spoke to the FOX Sports crew with an on-field microphone.

While the 2023 MLB All-Star Game wasn’t packed with multiple members of the Giants and Athletics, those that participated did so effectively for their teams on Tuesday.
A couple of scoreless innings for San Francisco’s two right-handers, and a booming double from the bat of Rooker made this year’s mid-summer classic a success for Bay Area baseball.
