Monday, Oct. 2, was the unofficial kick-off to the 2023-24 NBA season.
The Sacramento Kings welcomed local and national media to speak with players, coaches, and upper management about the upcoming season at their media day. Sactown Sports was well represented, with all on-air hosts in attendance.

While they’re there to work, there was also time to soak in the environment. Here’s what our hosts said were their favorite moments:
Kevin Gleason
This was a special media day for me because it was my first in the Golden One Center after many media days in the old Arco practice facility. I was very impressed by how upbeat and friendly all the players were, but my favorite moment came when I asked Malik Monk which member of the team would have the best chance of getting Taylor Swift to a Kings’ game.
“Probably me for sure,” he chuckled.
When I asked Keegan Murray the same question and told him what Malik said, he laughed and said, “yeah, he’s probably right, it’s him.”
Jason Ross
By far my favorite thing from media day is that there is no longer any talk of the “playoff drought.” The players were well aware of it last year and were highly focused on breaking the streak. They did it and now are moving on.
What’s next? Some players and coaches are talking about starting strong, others addressed playing at a level defensively that they did in the postseason and a guy like De’Aaron Fox mentioned chasing a championship. The tone was different, the goals were more specific and higher.
One other noticeable difference was how much “other media” were on site. The Kings have captured a lot of people’s attention. NBA TV, Sirius XM, and others were in the building for media day, as well as more of the local regulars. This team deserves the attention and now they need to back that up with a big season.
Chris Watkins
My favorite moment from media day was getting an opportunity to speak with Sacramento’s own, Jordan Ford. It was awesome to talk with all the guys about what they are looking forward to this upcoming season, but I found it extra special to talk with Jordan about his rise through the Sacramento basketball ranks and his unique journey to an NBA roster.
I’m not sure how much run Ford will be getting with his hometown team this season, but as someone born and raised in this area, I’m so excited to see how far Jordan can take his story and hopefully help grow the local basketball scene.
Carmichael Dave
My favorite moment was easily when Frankie Cartoscelli took two of the final three pieces of pizza at our table and gave the other one away to a non-Sactown Sports media member.

Also? Walking in.
This was somewhere around my 20th media day. In fact, my daughter was born on 10/5/07 and I went to that particular media day with the hospital band still around my wrist.
Walking into the facility, seeing my friends and colleagues, players, and coaches, and hearing the sounds of basketball. What a wonderful moment. Basketball is BACK.
