With the Bye Week now behind San Francisco, the 49ers can focus on there task at hand: Going on a dominant run down the stretch to secure the franchise’s first divisional title since 2019.
The Red & Gold will get a few weapons back this week as well, with eight players re-joining the team on the gridiron Sunday. Among those are: Running back Elijah Mitchell (knee), wide receiver Deebo Samuel (hamstring), and linebackers Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) and Dre Greenlaw (calf).
Week 10’s prep came at a cost however as cornerback Jason Verrett tore his achilles tendon Wednesday at practice, ending his 2022 comeback season. JV had been recovering from a torn ACL sustained Week 1 of the 2021 season, recently activated off the PUP list with his return to the field imminent.
“When you see something happen like that, it breaks your heart,” quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo said Thursday. “But that’s football. I mean it’s happened to me, it’s happening to all of us, it’s gonna happen to everyone at some point, but you just got to live with it…It was awkward, kind of quiet, but you just gotta move on, as cold-hearted as it sounds. It’s just kind of part of the business.”
