Almost 13 weeks have passed since the start of the regular season, yet here we are still speculating on Jimmy Garoppolo’s trade rumors from the past.
This week’s edition holds a bit more weight as the Miami Dolphins come to Levi’s Stadium Sunday.
Led by former 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, South Beach was a rumored landing spot for the veteran signal-caller before the season started. And while it would have been a good fit for the duo, Jimmy G is happy as ever to still be in the Bay Area.
“Yeah, I mean, they were in the conversation,” Garoppolo said to the media Thursday after practice. “Not much came from it, but they were definitely one of the teams in the conversation, seemed like a good spot. As an offense, [they have] tremendous skill players. Everything they got going over there, Mike [McDaniel] being a great coach, had him in the past here and it was discussed, but I am glad the way things worked out.”
In the end, hindsight is 20/20, as Jimmy Garoppolo and the Red & Gold will look to come out the victors against a high-powered Miami offense this weekend.
The quarterback of their opposition, Tua Tagovailoa, has emerged as a poised pocket passer this season, posting almost a 70% completion rate while throwing a minimal three interceptions all year. While Garoppolo has never met the young Hawaiian gunslinger, he’s impressed with his game in a family offense to San Francisco.
“I’ve watched a good amount of his film too, he plays very well in this offense. Man he’s smooth,” Garoppolo stated about Tagovailoa.
Jimmy G has also been dealing with speculation on whether or not he could play this week, after taking a nasty low blow to his surgically-repaired knee during Week 12’s contest against the New Orleans Saints. The hit left the QB on the ground in agony for a few moments before getting back to his feet.
Since then, Garoppolo hasn’t been on the injury report once, dealing with some soreness but nothing that doesn’t come with the rigors of the position. When asked about his knee Thursday, Jimmy used his humor to let the masses know he’s all good for Sunday afternoon.
Hey Jimmy, how's the knee?

“It feels great. Feels great, baby,” Garoppolo joked with the media. “It’s coming along. Yeah, I feel pretty good with it.”
