Sacramento Kings lead assistant coach Jordi Fernandez joined Kyle Draper of The Rise Guys from San Antonio on Friday to discuss his team’s recent improvement, Mike Brown winning his 400th career game, Keegan Murray’s defensive growth, and more.
Fernandez came to the United States from Spain 15 years ago, with his first job coming under Brown. While speaking with Draper, Fernandez shared how their paths crossed and what it meant to watch him win his 400th career game earlier in the week.
Jordi Fernandez is widely expected to get a head coaching job shortly (he nearly won the Toronto Raptors job this offseason), but his gratefulness towards Brown is apparent.
“If I could, I would work for him for the rest of my life,” Jordi Fernandez told Draper.

Also, throughout their conversation, they dove into Sacramento’s recent improvements on both ends of the floor. Fernandez explained their emphasis on taking good shots while working out of a slump while maintaining their defensive physicality and engagement.
That led to a more specific discussion about Keegan Murray’s recent growth as a defender. Jordi Fernandez highlighted Murray’s ability to guard multiple positions and his approach when challenged.
“One thing about Keegan is he doesn’t say much, but you know he’s not afraid,” he said. “He’ll figure it out, and he puts it on himself, and I think that type of mentality tells you how good of a player he is.”
To close, they discussed the Kings’ looming matchup with Victor Wembanyama, Gregg Popovich, and the San Antonio Spurs.
