Sacramento Kings associate head coach Jordi Fernandez joined “The Drive Guys” to talk about everything from Malik Monk’s recent performances, the team’s improved defense from last year, and more.
In the 2022-23 season, the Kings were 23-18 at home. And through 33 games this season, they’re 12-6 with 23 home games remaining to improve upon last year’s home record. Fernandez knows whenever they play at home, they have an advantage.
“I’ve always felt like we’ve been really good at home and that’s because of our fans and the energy that we have here, how fast we can play, and the ability to get off more shots at home,” Fernandez said. “It’s great to play in Sacramento [with] one of the best arenas in the NBA. I think we’re taking advantage of that and we can keep improving. Playing at home, it feels like we’re playing with six players.”
Additional topics discussed include:
- Malik Monk’s infectious energy and what he means to the team.
- The most gratifying moment from Wednesday’s double overtime win over the Orlando Magic
- How they’re preparing for a team that just made a trade a week ago
- Why are the players miss free throws and what the staff is doing to change this issue
- Playing better defense at home this season
- The relationship between Monk and coach Mike Brown
- Lack of votes for De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game
