With a broken hand, Robert Spillane achieved a career first this week.
The NFL announced its players of the week and the Las Vegas Raiders linebacker has been named the AFC’s Defensive Player of the Week. Against the New York Jets in Week 10, Spillane recorded a sack, interception, seven total tackles, a tackle for a loss, and one pass deflection.
Recording his third interception of the year, Spillane is now tied with Fred Warner (3) and Logan Wilson (3) for the most interceptions in the NFL among linebackers. He also became the first Raider since 2016 to record a sack and interception in the same game.

In Week 8 against the Detroit Lions, Spillane broke his hand. He had surgery after the game and hasn’t missed a beat, playing last Sunday with a cast. Interim coach Antonio Pierce said knowing that, the interception was “a hell of a play.”
“You have your superstars in the Maxx Crosby’s of the world, but then you have that lunch pail guy,” Pierce said of Robert Spillane after Sunday’s game. “And this guy just loves ball, man. You can see it on his face. You can see the energy and excitement he brings to our team and just again when we talk about the will to win and just being gritty.”
