Oakland starter Frankie Montas struck out nine batters in Monday’s win

After a disappointing 3-4 start, the Oakland Athletics have seemingly knocked off the rust after taking three out of four games from the Seattle Mariners.

Frankie Montas was dealing on Monday, striking out nine Mariners while only allowing four hits and one run over seven-innings in an 11-1 blowout win for the A’s.

Khris Davis hit his long-awaited first home-run of the year, a seventh-inning solo-shot off of Seattle reliever Zac Grotz.

Davis finished the game with two hits, two RBI and two runs scored.

Ramon Laureano, Mark Canha and Chad Pinder all finished with two RBI in Monday’s series clinching win. Matt Olson went one-for-three and walked three times.

The A’s will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they face the Texas Rangers at the Coliseum.

Rookie left-hander Jesus Luzardo will be making his first-career start after delivering seven strikeouts in 6.2 relief innings this season.

Be sure to tune in at 6:10pm for all of the action right here on Sports 1140 KHTK.

Game 3 (August 2, 2020): A’s 3, Mariners 2

Ramon Laureano’s three-run blast in the fifth-inning would be all of the offense the Athletics needed on Sunday, as Oakland defeated Seattle by a final of 3-2 at T-Mobile Park.

Chris Bassitt was dominant in the win, tossing 5.2 innings of one-run ball while only surrendering three hits and striking out seven batters.

The Athletics bullpen closed it down late, delivering 3.1 shutout innings to seal the win. Liam Hendriks picked up his third save of the season after striking out three of the four batters he faced in the ninth inning.

Game 2 (August 1, 2020): A’s 3, Mariners 2

In a strange year, there are strange rules that have been implemented into the 2020 season.

One of the rules that was installed this year was the automatic runner on second base to begin extra-inngs for all teams, a rule that played into the Athletics comeback win on Saturday.

After Chad Pinder’s two-run home run in the seventh-inning tied things up at 2-2, the A’s started the 10th inning with Tony Kemp on second base.

Stephen Piscotty flied out to right to begin the inning, but Robbie Grossman would come through with a pinch-hit, go-ahead double to give the A’s a 3-2 lead.

Liam Hendriks would sit the Mariners down in order in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win.

Game 1 (July 31, 2020): Mariners 5, A’s 3

The Oakland A’s offense came alive in the eighth-inning, but it would be too late as the Mariners held off the late charge to win 5-3 on Friday night in Seattle.

Mariners starter Taijuan Walker hurled seven dominant innings, only allowing one hit while striking out eight batters.

Sean Manaea allowed three earned runs over 4.1 innings while striking out four batters in the loss.
