The Athletic’s Matt Barrows joined “The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross” Tuesday morning following San Francisco’s disappointing loss in Super Bowl LVIII to the Kansas City Chiefs, the 49ers roster going into the 2024 season and more.
San Francisco is already favored to win Super Bowl LIX. How much of the 49ers roster will be back though?
“The cap is what it is and they’re going to have to make some decisions, but they’ve accounted for next season,” Barrows said. “They could have, at least, most of that group back next season. So all that talent that we’re talking about ought to be there and Brock Purdy is only going to get a little bit better. There’s not going to be a regression from him.”
Barrows went on to say the 49ers roster was lucky in 2023 by being mostly healthy, outside of short stints from Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel.
“You always got to wonder whether if that’s going to hold out two years in a row,” Barrows told Dave and Jason.
Additional topics discussed include:
- Chris Jones was “unblockable” at times
- What happened on the last play with 49ers offensive linemen Jon Feliciano and Colton McKivitz
- How much did Dre Greenlaw’s injury impact the game and his teammates’ mindset
- Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnola was really impressed with Brock Purdy
- For the 49ers to have “an elite defense” they need to pair someone with Nick Bosa
