Game Notes: UC Davis  |  Hawai’i  |  Big West

DAVIS, Calif. – With wins in its last five consecutive games, one of the hottest teams in the Big West will return home for its final games of the regular season when UC Davis hosts Hawai’i in a pair of 4 p.m. contests this Friday and Saturday at the Pavilion.

Basketball fans can watch the last series of the season for the Aggies on BigWest.TV, or listen to Scott Marsh broadcast both games on Sports 1140 KHTK. In addition to Marsh’s Friday broadcast for BigWest.TV, Greg Wong will provide the call for the video stream of Saturday’s season finale. Game program, in-game Twitter updates and live stats links are also available by visiting Gameday Central at UCDavisAggies.com.

Even though teams want to win every game played, this weekend’s matchups carry an added level of importance since the right result can create momentum that carries over to next week’s 2021 Air Force Reserve Big West Men’s Basketball Championship, presented by the Hawaiian Islands, and make one’s path to securing the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament bid a bit easier.

Since all 10 men’s teams are participating in this year’s conference playoffs, wins earned this weekend could become the difference between playing four games in five days — First Round matchups are scheduled for Tuesday with the championship game taking place next Saturday night — or experiencing a more traditional situation in playing three games in as many days (as has been the case in recent seasons when the Honda Center hosted this event) and enjoying extra rest before returning to action in one of Thursday’s quarterfinals.

Entering the final series of season, UC Davis is third with a conference win percentage of .625 and Hawai’i sits in sixth place at .500. Next week’s First Round matches will pit the league’s seventh-place team against the 10th-place finisher; the other game will feature teams that finished in eighth and ninth place.

Expect a couple of hard-fought battles this weekend when the Rainbow Warriors and Aggies step onto Hamilton Court: In addition to splitting the last four head-to-head games played inside the Pavilion, one basket was the margin of victory for UH in both of last year’s matchups.

Series Record vs. Hawai’i: UC Davis trails 11-6
Last UC Davis Win: 3/1/18 — H, 70-59
Last Hawai’i Win: 3/5/20 — H, 67-65
Series Streak: Hawai’i +4
