Just two months after being removed from his role as San Francisco Giants manager, Gabe Kapler has a new job.
According to The Miami Herald’s Craig Mish, the Miami Marlins have hired Kapler as their assistant general manager. The new role will take Kapler out of the dugout and into the front office after six seasons as a big-league skipper.
Kapler, 48, was named National League Manager of the Year in 2021 after leading San Francisco to a franchise-record 107 wins in what was his most successful season as Giants manager.

More on former SF Giants manager & new Marlins assistant GM Gabe Kapler
San Francisco parted ways with Kapler during the final days of the 2023 regular season following two straight losing seasons, the latest being an 81-81 finish–fourth place in the National League West.
Kapler, who was hired before the COVID-shortened 2020 season, compiled a record of 295-248 (.543) during his four seasons with San Francisco.
During those four years, the Giants secured one National League West title (2021), the franchise’s first since 2012, and went 2-3 in the 2021 NLDS against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.
According to Mish’s report, Kapler was said to be “looking for a new challenge” after four years managing San Francisco. It didn’t take long for the former outfielder to find work, and now he will head to South Beach to begin his new role.
