Sacramento Kings’ media day has arrived. All players, general manager Monte McNair, and head coach Mike Brown addressed the media before the start of training camp. Brown, as usual, was an entertaining, open book.
Most of their players and coaching staff are returning, providing a sense of family and continuity that is atypical for the Sacramento organization.
“There’s a little bit of comfort because we have a lot of guys back, and we’re starting to form a nucleus that, in my opinion, most good teams or organizations out there have when it comes to moving forward as a group or as a unit,” Brown said. “We’re excited about the work they put in over the summer and the connectivity that they had over the summer. Having the nucleus, the group, back, giving these guys a chance to grow, and seeing if we can grow from within gives me and everybody else a little bit of a comfort zone because we’ve all been through a lot of stuff together. So, it’s now, it’s just time to continue to build on that narrative.”

As that group continues to grow their games and look to improve, improving their defensive physicality is essential. “The biggest thing, if there’s one I’d like to get out there, is our physicality has to start happening yesterday,” Brown said.
Training camp starts tomorrow, Tuesday, for the Sacramento Kings. They’re heading in with a full 21 players, leaving three necessary cuts by the beginning of the regular season.
Other topics discussed include:
- De’Aaron Fox’s offseason growth as a leader and player
- Not getting complacent, continuing to build as a team
- Mike Brown on adding layers to their offensive game: “We may add some things with our DHO game…”
- Early impressions of the new additions: Sasha Vezenkov, Chris Duarte, JaVale McGee
