Despite Thursday’s win, Mike Brown was ‘not happy’ with the Kings’ performance

“It’s a good win, our guys found a way to get the win, but we were not good.”

That is how Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown started his post-game press conference. The New York Knicks clawed their way back from down 21 points to get within three in the fourth quarter. Thankfully, fourth-quarter Fox showed up, scoring 11 points in the first three minutes of the final quarter.

But by the final buzzer, the Knicks recorded 23 offensive rebounds to the Kings’ six. Knicks’ guard Josh Hart led the team in rebounding, grabbing 15 total.

“I was extremely disappointed in our ability to box out, let alone rebound. Josh Hart just kicked our ass, he kicked our ass,” Brown said. “Nobody put a body on him the entire night. I thought their physicality was great because it made us go one-on-one quite a bit throughout the course of the game and made us take difficult shots. I thought we didn’t get a chance to get out in transition, a, cause we couldn’t come up with the rebound to get out the run and put pressure on them, so they had us playing a slow, walk-it-up-paced game. And they were the ones that got out in transition, they outscored us 23 to 7 [in transition points]. You can tell I’m a little frustrated.”

Coach Brown went on to say he was only happy with the performance because the team was able to pull out the win. He also praised Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau and the toughness of New York.

“Somehow, someway, we have to be better throughout the course of the ball game,” Brown added. “I’m going to put pressure on Domas and Foxy, they have to hold themselves to an elite level on every possession, but just as importantly, they gotta open their mouths and hold their teammates to high standards, cause that ain’t going to fly.”
