Giants Legend Barry Bonds Attends River Cats Game, Sacramento Kings Practice

San Francisco Giants legendary slugger Barry Bonds had a busy day in Sacramento on Tuesday.

The Kings recently reached a deal with the Sacramento River Cats, San Francisco’s AAA affiliate, that merged both franchises underneath Ranadive’s ownership umbrella. First, Bonds threw out the first pitch and was in attendance at Sutter Health Park on Tuesday for the River Cats’ final game of the season.

After he threw out the first pitch, the home run champion traveled down the street with Ranadive to meet with the entire Kings team following its second day of training camp.

Barry Bonds spoke to the entire team, giving words of encouragement before taking a group picture with the players, coaches, and Ranadive. According to Kings head coach Mike Brown, Bonds told the team that he will be around and “paying close attention” to what they accomplish this season.

Over 22 big league seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates and San Francisco Giants, Bonds mashed an MLB-record 762 home runs and was named as the National League’s Most Valuable Player a record-setting seven times.

Following his retirement from baseball in 2007, Bonds has spent time as a hitting coach with the Miami Marlins and now works in the Giants’ front office as a Special Advisor to the CEO.
