NBA Draft analyst says Darius Acuff Jr. & the Kings ‘are a perfect match’
Darius Acuff Jr. earned high praise from NBA Draft analyst Tyler Rucker, who believes the Kings landed a future star and perfect fit at 7th.

The Sacramento Kings have spent months identifying the player they believe can help shape the franchise’s future, and in selecting Darius Acuff Jr. with the seventh overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft, they may have landed one of the biggest steals of the lottery.
Fresh off a remarkable freshman season at Arkansas, Darius Acuff averaged 23.5 points and 6.4 assists while shooting 44 percent from three-point range.
The SEC Player of the Year, SEC Rookie of the Year, and Consensus All-American had been linked to Sacramento since March, and NBA Draft analyst Tyler Rucker believes the fit couldn’t be much better.
Speaking on Sactown Sports’ The Matt & Kayla Show, Rucker called Acuff’s arrival in Sacramento one of his favorite outcomes of the entire first round.
“I think Kings fans should be very excited,” Rucker said. “That was probably one of my favorite fits of the first round. Going up into the draft, I was thinking, ‘Oh man, if they just land there and it really happens.’ I think this is a great match.”

While several talented guards came off the board before Sacramento’s selection, Rucker believes Darius Acuff Jr. still has a chance to emerge as one of the best players in the entire class.
“There’s a chance he could be one of the best guards from this class,” Rucker said. “I think Darius landed in an outstanding position to kind of take control of the reins.”
Beyond his impressive offensive production, Acuff’s competitiveness stood out throughout the pre-draft process.
Kings general manager Scott Perry repeatedly praised Acuff’s confidence and leadership qualities after the selection, and Rucker said those traits consistently surfaced in conversations around the league.
“The first thing everyone says is tough,” Rucker explained. “Just the competitor, the toughness. It’s not arrogance or cockiness. He’s a tough player that’s going to be ready to go.”
That mentality could prove especially important as Acuff transitions to the NBA. Rucker noted that the point guard position is one of the most difficult for a rookie to master because of the responsibility that comes with running a team.
“We sat at that table, and I said, “This is gonna play out perfect. You’re gonna be where you need to be, where they really want you.”

“He’s still going to battle, he’s still going to work, he’s still going to be in the gym, and he’s going to fight through it,” Rucker said.
Rucker also believes Sacramento provides the ideal environment for growth, allowing Acuff to develop through experience while carrying significant responsibility early in his career.
“I think Darius landed in a great spot,” Rucker said. “The most important thing for development is you’ve got to get confidence, and you’ve got to be able to build off that confidence. I think it’s just a perfect match.”

Seems like a great kid personality wise, tough as nails competitor is what you want. And really seems to be big on the city and team already, which is saying a lot when most players don't want to go to Sac.
He definitely seems like an offensive dynamo, hardly anyone puts up those kind of numbers with that type of efficiency. 48 and 44% is nothing to scoff at...almost on Steph level of being efficient. Even with guys like Dame and Trae, they can put up the numbers but their shooting percentages quite aren't there...esp in Young's case.
