A fake report linking Jordan Poole to the Sacramento Kings turned out to be completely fabricated, but it still sparked a legitimate conversation on Sactown Sports’ The Drive Guys about whether the veteran guard would actually make sense for Sacramento.
Kevin Gleason and Allen Stiles discussed a bogus report from an alleged NBA insider claiming the New Orleans Pelicans had waived Poole and that the Kings, Golden State Warriors, and Miami Heat were among the teams interested.
The report came from a nonexistent reporter, serving as another reminder of how easily fake NBA rumors can spread during the quiet part of the offseason.
Stiles admitted he initially fell for the report because it created an intriguing Kings conversation at a time when there aren’t many storylines to dissect.
“When I saw it, I thought, well, Monday’s show is done,” Stiles said with a laugh. “And then I saw it was fake, and I was ticked off because I wanted to have the conversation.”

More on Jordan Poole
The report may have been fake, but the Drive Guys weren’t completely dismissive of Jordan Poole’s talent. Gleason pointed out that Poole is only 27 and is coming off an expiring $34 million contract for the 2026-27 season. Still, his recent production raises questions.
Poole averaged 13.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.1 assists over 39 games with New Orleans last season while shooting a career-worst 37% from the field and 33% from three-point range.
Stiles isn’t sure what Poole’s future looks like after the contract expires.
“I truly don’t know,” Stiles said. “I really don’t know what his future holds.”
That uncertainty is particularly notable, given how high Poole’s trajectory once appeared. He was a key contributor on the Warriors’ 2022 championship team before struggling to maintain that level after leaving Golden State.
Gleason argued that Poole’s peak still makes him intriguing, especially as a potential volume shooter. He pointed to Poole averaging 20.5 points while shooting 37.8% from three on 9.1 attempts per game in 2025.

“If he was on this team, a team that already has some defensive issues, they’d give up 170 points by the end of the third quarter every night,” Gleason joked.
That may ultimately be the biggest issue for the Kings. Poole can provide scoring, playmaking and three-point volume, but Sacramento already has defensive concerns.
For now, there is no indication the Kings are pursuing Jordan Poole. The report connecting him to Sacramento was fake. But the conversation revealed why Poole remains an intriguing (and complicated) name to watch as his massive contract approaches its expiration.
