Sacramento Kings reach multi-year agreement with Precious Achiuwa

According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Sacramento Kings have agreed to a new contract with forward-center Precious Achiuwa, keeping one of the team’s biggest success stories from last season in Sacramento as free agency gets underway.

Achiuwa and the Kings have agreed on a two-year, $11.5 million deal that runs through the 2027-28 season.

The agreement comes after months of mutual interest between both sides, with Kings general manager Scott Perry and Achiuwa each expressing a desire to continue their partnership following the 2025-26 season.

Achiuwa proved to be one of Sacramento’s most impactful additions despite not joining the team until after the regular season had already begun.

Signed after opening the year without a roster spot, the veteran big worked his way into a major role, appearing in 73 games while making 57 starts for Sacramento.

As of now, Precious Achiuwa is slated to join Keegan Murray, De’Andre Hunter, Domantas Sabonis, Maxime Raynaud, and Dylan Cardwell in the Kings frontcourt.

Precious Achiuwa proved to be one of Sacramento’s most impactful additions despite not joining the team until after the regular season had already begun.

Signed after opening the year without a roster spot, the 6-foot-8 forward-center worked his way into a major role, appearing in 73 games while making 57 starts.

Achiuwa averaged career highs of 10.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and shot 52.8 percent from the field, providing the Kings with athleticism, versatility and reliable frontcourt production.

His strong finish to the season further highlighted his value, averaging 15.7 points and 9.2 rebounds over the final 25 games.

“Not bad for a guy who came off the couch in November right now,” Perry said during the team’s exit interviews in April. “Really enjoyed working with Precious this year. Got a chance to show a lot.”

Perry praised Precious Achiuwa’s steady development throughout the season and the versatility he brought to Sacramento’s lineup.

“I just really like how, as the season wore on, he became more comfortable,” Perry said. “He’s a player that can guard multiple positions. He can play with the necessary athleticism, energy and force. I think that it’s very important in today’s game.”

The Kings’ front office also made it clear that retaining Achiuwa was a priority.

“I know he’d like to be back here,” Perry said. “We’d like to have him back here. So hopefully we will continue to do business together.”

Achiuwa echoed those feelings following the season, emphasizing that Sacramento had become an ideal fit.

“For me, the most important thing is being somewhere where I’m wanted,” Achiuwa said. “A place where the organization wants me to be there and where I enjoy being. You know, Sacramento is a place that I love being.”

Having previously played in Miami, Toronto and New York, Precious Achiuwa said Sacramento’s quieter atmosphere fit his personality.

“I’ve always been the type of person to kind of be low key, out the way,” Achiuwa said. “Sacramento gives me that feeling… that’s more so my pace.”

Now, that mutual interest has resulted in a new agreement, allowing the Kings to retain a versatile frontcourt contributor–as well as a key member of the ‘Beam Boys’– coming off the best season of his NBA career as Sacramento continues to shape its roster for the 2026-27 campaign.
