Mike Brown has his extension. What’s next for the Kings?

After weeks of negotiating, the Sacramento Kings and head coach Mike Brown agreed on a multi-year extension over the weekend.

Brown, who was entering the final guaranteed year of his original deal with the Kings, has inked a three-year, $30 million deal that will keep him under contract through the 2026-27 season.

It was a well-deserved deal for Brown, the 2022-23 NBA Coach of the Year and lone Sacramento head coach with a playoff appearance since the start of the 2006-07 season, and one that brought the 54-year-old’s salary into the same range as coaches around the league like Detroit’s Monty Williams and Phoenix’s Mike Budenholzer.

While the brief–and likely blown out of proportion–Brown vs. Kings drama has subsided, the fact remains that Sacramento has some work to do this summer after missing the NBA Playoffs by one game.

Kings general manager Monte McNair will punch his time card in the coming weeks once the NBA Finals conclude and eyes turn to the NBA Draft (June 26-27) and the start of free agency (June 30th).

When is the next NBA off-season date of interest?

The NBA Draft is now a two-night event.

Wednesday, June 26th, will act as the first night of the 2024 NBA Draft, where the Sacramento Kings will make their first-round selection (13th). The second round of the draft will be held on Thursday, June 27th, where the Kings will use its 45th overall pick.

Sacramento hasn’t had a first-round pick since 2022, when it selected Iowa product Keegan Murray with the fourth overall pick.
