Report: Sacramento Kings acquire Jonas Valancuinas via trade

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings have acquired big man Jonas Valancuinas from the Wizards via trade.

Shortly after trading franchise point guard De’Aaron Fox, the Sacramento Kings used the draft capital they acquired in the deal to add Jonas Valancuinas from the Washington Wizards.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Valancuinas has been traded to the Kings in exchange for Sidy Cissoko and two second-round picks.

Cissoko, acquired from San Antonio in the Fox deal, just participated in Sacramento’s morning Wednesday morning and spoke with reporters afterward. It looks like number 91 will remain unclaimed in the history of the Kings.

As for Jonas Valancuinas, he has a well-documented history with Domantas Sabonis due to their Lithuanian connection, having played together on the national team on various occasions.

The 32-year-old center is averaging 11.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on 54.7 percent from the field and 25.9 percent from three (on 0.6 attempts per game) in 49 games played with Washington this season.

He’s in the first year of a 3-year, $30.3-million deal he signed this offseason.

With less than 24 hours until the February 6th trade deadline, general manager Monte McNair and the rest of Sacramento’s front office may not be done making moves. There’s still a clear need for forwards, and those holes are expected to be addressed.

The De’Aaron Fox and Zach LaVine trade has become official as of Monday afternoon. The Sacramento Kings announced the completion of the deal, which included quotes from general manager Monte McNair on the recent roster subtractions and additions.

In a three-team deal that included the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls, the Kings acquired LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first-round picks, and three second-rounders in exchange for Fox, Kevin Huerter, and Jordan McLaughlin.

It’s the end of an era in Sacramento, with Fox departing after spending his first seven and a half seasons in California’s capital. McNair commented on what he’s meant to the organization while also expressing optimism about their updated long-term outlook.
