How did Scott Perry draft during his tenure with the New York Knicks?

How did current Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry do with his previous draft picks while working for the New York Knicks?

Current Sacramento Kings general manager Scott Perry has roughly 2.5 decades of experience in NBA front offices. So, while the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft may be one of the most important he’s been part of, there are plenty of previous selections that can be reflected on.

The Drive Guys, Kevin “Whitey” Gleason, and Allen Stiles, reflected on Scott Perry’s selections while working for the New York Knicks. It’s worth noting that while he held the role of general manager, the Presidents of Basketball Operations, Steve Mills and, later, Leon Rose, also participated in the decision-making that led to their decisions.

With 11 picks added during his tenure, of course, it’s a blend of hits and misses that span across a wide range of spots.

More on Kings GM Scott Perry

  • 2018 Draft: Kevin Knox (9th overall), Mitchell Robinson (36th overall)
  • 2019: RJ Barrett (3rd overall), Ignas Brazdeikis (47th overall)
  • 2020: Obi Toppin (8th overall), Immanuel Quickley (25th overall)
  • 2021: Quentin Grimes (25th overall), Miles McBride (36th overall), Jericho Sims (58th overall)

Knox obviously didn’t pan out, as he was not on an NBA roster during the 2025-26 season, but getting Robinson in the second round is a major success in hindsight, as he’s still a key member for New York’s ongoing postseason run.

“What we’re learning is the second round is where Scott Perry is really doing some work,” Stiles said. “That’s what we’re learning, and we know firsthand from this past draft with Maxime (Raynaud).” Taken at 42nd overall in 2025, Raynaud has a solid chance of making the All-Rookie first team thanks to his stellar counting stats.

Barrett may not be a home run selection, but he was the “obvious” choice at the time of that draft after Zion Williamson and Ja Morant went first and second. Even though he’s since joined the Raptors, it landed them a valuable piece in OG Anunoby, and Barrett has produced for Toronto.

Quickley was also part of that deal, and he may be the most impressive selection of Scott Perry’s tenure by landing a starting-caliber guard late in the first round. Toppin is more debatable, as he didn’t truly come into his own until landing with the Indiana Pacers later in his career.

Taking Grimes at 25 is a similar story, even if he’s more of a role player than Quickley has proven to be. But overall, Scott Perry had both hits and misses during his tenure with the Knicks.

Adding Raynaud, Nique Clifford, and undrafted Dylan Cardwell in his first year with the Kings looks promising, but it’s too early in their careers to call it either way.

Perhaps the most important pick is always the next one for Perry, but Sacramento’s 2026 lottery selection could drastically change the future of their organization if they’re able to identify the right talents and/or get a lucky draw.
