The San Francisco 49ers have officially trimmed their roster down to 53 players ahead of the 2026 regular season, making a series of moves as the team prepares for its season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia on September 10.

San Francisco released 14 players and waived 20 others as part of Sunday’s roster deadline. The team also placed four players on injured reserve and two more on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

Among the more notable names released were veteran running back Khalil Herbert, defensive lineman Ogbo Okoronkwo, safety Ashtyn Davis and wide receivers KhaDarel Hodge and Trenton Irwin. Long snapper Jon Weeks, who has spent significant time in the NFL, was also released.

The 49ers also parted ways with several players who had been competing for depth roles throughout training camp and the preseason, including offensive linemen Brandon Parker, Robert Jones and Doug Kramer Jr.

San Francisco waived a group of young players, including quarterback Adrian Martinez, running back Sincere McCormick, tight end Khalil Dinkins, defensive lineman Viliami Fehoko Jr. and cornerback Darrell Luter Jr.

The injury list also impacts the roster heading into the opener. Wide receiver Christian Kirk and offensive lineman Austen Pleasants were placed on injured reserve with the designation to return, while offensive linemen Brett Toth and Nick Zakelj were also placed on IR.
