Christian McCaffrey, others sound off on top RBs not getting extensions Monday

Monday was a bad day for NFL running backs league-wide. So much so that other ballcarriers, including San Francisco 49er Christian McCaffrey, spoke out on the matter.

The versatile offensive weapon was a handful of football players & enthusiasts to share their thoughts on top RBs Josh Jacobs, Saquon Barkley and Tony Pollard, not getting long-term deals Monday. All three players had been given the franchise tag for the 2023 season, valued at $10.1 million. Monday served as the final deadline to reach an extension before the start of the 2023 season.

Since none of said players reached an agreement with their respective teams, they will be forced to play on the franchise tag next season.

This is Criminal,” Christian McCaffrey tweeted after the deadline. “Three of the best PLAYERS in the entire league, regardless of position.”

McCaffrey, 27, is coming off a fantastic year of his own, reaching nearly 1,900 total yards last season. He was ranked the second-best running back in the league by NFL personnel last week, with only Nick Chubb ahead of him.  CMC has three years remaining on his contract, valued at over $12 million each season.

Unfortunately, that is now the norm with RBs, continuing to be undervalued by front office across the country. And after this latest round of cutbacks, other elite ballcarriers took to Twitter to say their piece.

The marquee men of the group are Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley, the third & fourth-ranked RBs in a recent ESPN poll. Jacobs led the league in rushing last season at 1653 yards, while Barkley managed 1312 yards on the ground as well. Both men had been determined to stay with their teams on a long-term deal, but now that that has not happened, things can change over the coming months.
