Is a Jimmy Garoppolo trade on the horizon? According to ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo are one step closer to separating.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday the 49ers’ front office has given Garoppolo’s agents permission to find a trade.

Garoppolo is in the last year of a 5-year contract that’ll pay him a salary of $25 million.

Earlier this week, the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Garoppolo is expected to be fully cleared for physical activity by mid-August. The 49ers’ quarterback opted for off-season shoulder surgery on his throwing arm. Reports began trickling in recently that Garoppolo began throwing for several weeks already.

A Jimmy Garoppolo trade has been expected, given the team drafting Trey Lance in 2021.

The San Francisco 49ers open training camp on Wednesday, July 27. The team’s first preseason game takes place a few weeks later on Friday, Aug. 12, against the Green Bay Packers. The 49ers face off against another NFC North team as they open the season on Sunday, Sept. 11, against the Chicago Bears.

The 49ers look to build off last season’s Cinderella run after losing to the Rams in the NFC Championship game.
