49ers WR Jauan Jennings misses second straight practice with hip injury

The 49ers feel like a team of ever-rotating injuries at the moment, with Jauan Jennings being the latest to have his status in question.

The San Francisco 49ers wide receiver was not present during the media portion of Thursday’s practice. This follows his absence a day earlier, battling a hip injury stemming from Week 6. While Jennings was about to make it through the contest with no issue, he has struggled since, with his Week 7 status firmly in doubt at the moment.

Jauan Jennings, 27, signed a two-year, $15-plus extension with the 49ers over the offseason. The former seventh-round pick has exceeded expectations, becoming a focal member of coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense. 2024 has been a breakout in some respects, only 13 receiving yards away from breaking his career high for a season (404). The Tennessee alum has done so through only six games.

If Jennings were to miss Week 7, the 49ers would feel it on multiple fronts, especially the ground game. Fellow wideouts Chris Conley and Ronnie Bell figure to be given increased opportunities should that be the case come Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Or, rookie WR Ricky Pearsall could be a surprise activation with Jauan Jennings sidelined.

Pearsall has yet to make his NFL debut, on the Non-Football Injury List since the beginning of September. While his practice window was opened this week, it remains to be seen if the 49ers feel he is ready for the spotlight.

In other injury news, both WR Deebo Samuel (wrist) and running back Jordan Mason were limited at practice once more Thursday. Both men sported blue non-contact jerseys.

Meanwhile, kickers Jake Moody and Matthew Wright were not seen. SF may be forced to play its’ third kicker in three weeks, signing Anders Carlson to the practice squad.

Additionally, defensive tackle Kevin Givens was not present Thursday after making it on the field 24 hours earlier. Fellow defensive linemen Maliek Collins and Leonard Floyd did return Thursday however.
