The Oakland Athletics’ red-hot play has been spearheaded by some surging talent on the roster, with Brent Rooker leading the way.

Rooker, who drilled a career-high 30 home runs for Oakland in 2023, was named American League Player of the Week on Monday for his contributions during the week of April 29th-May 5th.

Over five games, Rooker hit three home runs, drove in seven runs, and went seven-for-16 (.438) at the plate to go along with a .550 on-base percentage.

Thanks to solid play from Rooker and countless others on the active roster, Oakland has turned heads to start the 2024 regular season.

The A’s entered play on Monday with a record of 17-18, putting them just 2.5 games behind the American League West-leading Seattle Mariners. Last season, it took Oakland until June 11th (67 games) to secure its 17th win.

Rooker has been a staple in the Athletics’ lineup, as the 29-year-old is now batting .248 with eight home runs, 20 RBI, and a .615 slugging percentage (all team-highs).
