On This Date: Webber, Kings Even Series Against Lakers

18 years ago today, the Sacramento Kings evened up the Western Conference Finals at 1-1

All athletic events will be on pause for the foreseeable future, which is a tough pill to swallow for sports fans around the world.

While this may be a rough time for Sacramento Kings fans, we can look back on some good times while we wait for basketball to make its return.

May 20, 2002 – NBA Western Conference Finals

Kings 96, Lakers 90 (Series tied 1-1)

On the heels of a disappointing loss in Game 1, the Sacramento Kings bounced back in Game 2 as they defeated the Los Angeles Lakers by a final of 96-90 at Arco Arena.

Chris Webber had an all-around incredible game, scoring 21 points to go along with 13 rebounds, five assists, two steals and five blocked shots.

Sacramento had five of its seven players finish in double-figures, with Mike Bibby scoring 20 points and dishing eight assists while Bobby Jackson added 17 points off of the bench.

Vlade Divac scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds before fouling out after 36 minutes. Doug Christie chipped in with 13 points to help the Kings even the series up at 1-1 as Game 3 would head to the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles.

Shaquille O’Neal’s monster game wouldn’t be enough for the Lakers, as he finished with 35 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.
