The NFL has made it known they are looking to expand the game of football internationally, doing so by playing their first game in South America next season.

The NFL officially announced Wednesday the first ever regular-season contest taking place in Brazil in 2024, now set for opening weekend, Friday, Sept. 6th. NFL Brazil will take place between the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles Week 1, holding the game at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo. This is the first time in more than 50 years to be played on a Fri9day night during opening weekend.

The game will stream exclusively on Peacock, and will also be available on NFL+ and over airwaves in local markets.

Final decisions on opponents were revealed Wednesday, as the league has been planning the São Paulo game for some time now. The Eagles were always scheduled to be the home team, but the visiting side was between Green Bay and the Cleveland Browns. Ultimately, the NFL chose the former, setting up for a tasty NFC clash in Brazil.

Both franchises will play their second international series game ever next season. The Eagles last played across the pond in England in 2018, while the Packers last played outside the U.S. in 2022. That contest was also in England, making this the first time either organization has played in a non-english-speaking country.

The NFL has expanded their global reach in recent years, playing in Germany the last few seasons. The league has also expanded their schedule to different days, including a Christmas Day doubleheader on Wednesday in 2024.

Key offseason dates for the San Francisco 49ers

  • April 15 First Day of Voluntary Workouts

  • May 20-21, May 23, May 28-29, May 31–OTAs
