Jim Harbaugh is leaving college on a high note to return to the NFL.
According to reports, Harbaugh is leaving Michigan to become the next coach for the Los Angeles Chargers. The former San Francisco 49ers coach left the NFL in 2015 to return to coaching at the college level.
The Chargers have not yet announced the news. Los Angeles fired coach Brandon Staley in mid-December after being blown out 63-21 by the Las Vegas Chargers.
In his four years with the 49ers, he took San Francisco to three straight NFC Championships and faced his brother John in Super Bowl XLVII. He never had a losing season with the 49ers.
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks also interviewed for the position.
